What producibility means: five reasons factories reject a design

Producibility is whether a jewelry design can be cast, set, finished and polished exactly as drawn, without going back to change the design itself. However beautiful a render is, if the structure cannot be made, the factory sends it back. At mulapis, every AI-generated design passes a specification review against one fixed standard; the five checks below are where designs most often fail.
Floating or undersized prongs
A prong is the metal post that holds a stone, and its cross-section must be thicker than the casting minimum while connecting to the base as one continuous structure. A prong that looks elegantly slender in an image may snap at a touch once cast; a floating setting shows no problem in a render and only reveals itself at the wax stage. The first gate of review is tracing the load path of every prong from stone to base.
Stone seat versus ring size
Every dimension in a jewelry design constrains the others: the diameter of the center stone sets the width of its seat, and the seat is bounded by the inner diameter of the band. On a size-14 ring (17.3 mm inner diameter) with a 7×5 mm oval center stone, the space left for shoulders and side stones is already fixed. An image can exaggerate the stone at will; a production spec cannot — if the dimension chain fails, the whole design is re-laid.
Structures that cannot release from a mold
Casting depends on molds: any fully enclosed cavity or deep undercut keeps the wax model from releasing cleanly. An openwork gallery is a signature of fine jewelry, but its openings must leave channels for finishing and polishing tools to enter — otherwise the piece can be cast but never finished.
Uneven walls and unreliable gold weight
Too thin, and the band deforms under load; too thick, and gold weight and cost run away. Gold weight is not an estimate — it is the model's volume multiplied by the alloy's density. When an 18K ring is specified at about 3.8 grams, that number stands on every wall being within range. Only a design with real geometry can state a real gold weight.
Settings mismatched to stones
Each setting has preconditions: pavé requires a minimum gap between stones or they collide; every small stone in a halo needs its own hole and prongs; the count and placement of prongs depends on the center stone's shape and size. Choose the wrong setting and stones sit loose — or cannot be set at all.
